Q How long does it take to install a solar panel system?

A That will depend entirely on the complexity of the system you choose. Ask the company you are buying from to give you an estimate of the time they expect to take. You will probably be pleasurably surprised to find that it is just a few days.

Q When I have placed my order how long before the installation starts?

A Again that is something you need to agree with your supplier. Companies with full order books can be a sign that they are selling a good product and giving a good service. However, you don’t want to have to wait forever.

Like anything you are buying it pays to talk to other customers of the company how prompt they were and how good the service was. Ask if there are other customers you can talk to.

Q Do I need planning permission?

A In recent times the rules on planning permission in England have changed to allow householders to carry out some work without the need for planning permission.

BUT it is still a good idea to check with your local authority as some rules do still apply, especially if the work you are planning will affect your neighbours in some way.

Anyone living in a conservation area, world heritage site or in a listed building will need to contact the planners to see what is and isn’t allowed. Those with an A-framed house also need help on planning rules.

Householders in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland should always consult their local planners, as their rules may differ from those in England.
